In Division 1, Ambleside E continued their winning ways right to the last week in the season, and only dropped the one match all year, although in the final few matches came close to losing another match to their sister team, and closest rivals for top spot, Ambleside F, who forced a 5-5 draw. Man of the match was the town champion, Paul Calloway of the ‘F’ team, who remained unbeaten on the night winning all his three games, and indeed unbeaten throughout the entire season. However, Arun Jogi of the ‘E’ team was the top of the averages by virtue of games played. Both Ambleside teams were well ahead of the following pack with 3rd spot going to NALGO A, who narrowly pipped Wolvey C. Unfortunately, the two Stockingford teams B & D found themselves in the relegation spots, which was unfortunate for the ‘D’ side as they had recorded sufficient wins to put themselves in 3rd spot, but had penalty points deducted because of ongoing team problems. In Division 2 the top spot was taken by another Stockingford team the ‘C’ side who were the only unbeaten side in the whole division, and were the pacesetters from the outset, but came close to losing a match when both Fire Brigade and Ambleside A took them to a 5-5 draw. It was very close in the league averages as Stockingford’s Kevin Hobley narrowly beat number of games played as both players lost only 3 games all year. The runner up spot went to Ajax Wolvey D, who had a chance of narrowing the gap when they met Stockingford in the last few weeks of the season, but were soundly beaten 8-2. Pete Morris had a good year for Wolvey finishing in 3rd spot in the averages. Unfortunately, both club’s sister teams in the division, Ajax Wolvey B and Stockingford A found themselves at the opposite end of the league in the two relegation spots. Fire Brigade and Crescent B shared 3rd spot. Top spot in Division 3 went to Crescent C who finished with a perfect 14 wins from 14 matches, with Imran Vorajee remaining unbeaten all year, and ably supported by Naeem Ahmedabadi and Soufyaan Malik who had averages of 90% and 86% respectively. The runner-up spot belonged to Ambleside F only 9 points behind, who hoped to close the gap when they met again towards the end of the season, but whilst Ambleside did better than earlier in the season, they still ran out losing the match 7-3. Despite Imran’s 100% he did not win the averages title as he played insufficient matches, so this went to Ambleside’s Matt Jackson who finished the year on 95%. The remainder of the teams in this division were closely matched, but taking the 3rd spot was another Crescent team the D team who had hopes of being promoted with their sister team, but their hopes were dashed when they lost 8-2 to Ambleside A in the penultimate week of the season. Ajax Wolvey E found themselves in the bottom spot with 2 Ambleside teams B & G just above them. 2013/2014 Season Our thoughts will soon turn to the coming season, and if any WMC, Youth or sports club, or indeed anyone would like to start or join a team, then please contact the league Development Officer, Steve Hobley, on 07970 078906.
