Northumbria Winter League - weekly league report 03 April 2022

As we come to the end of the 2021/22 season the last two weeks have featured a number of rescheduled games, this week’s report covers those games.

In the Premier Division Prudhoe United Services Club A had two games in the week, in the first game they lost 6-4 to St Chads. Chris Blake was player of the match with three wins supported by Dave Bisset and Barry Cuthbertson who both won one game each. Prudhoe’s points came from two wins each from Andrew Firth and Mark O’Connor. In the second game they lost by the score 6-4 to Cramlington Stingers, this time Andrew Firth was player of the match winning three games including a close five end game against Steve Pearce which he won 11-9 in the fifth end. There are some remaining matches to play next week which will decide which team ends up in second place to division winners NECA A.

In Division 1 Mount B had already been confirmed as winners of the division finishing to with 121 points. However, second place could still be taken by Old England Nomads or Cramlington Falcons who both had games. Cramlington Falcons played first and beat NECA B 6-4 with Oliver Ho again player of the match with three wins including an impressive win against Jamie Collins where he was 2-0 down but won the final three ends to secure the win. Old England Nomads played Stocksfield B and were immediately in trouble going 3-0 down but then won the next four games to take the lead 4-3 but then Stocksfield came back to win the final three games of the match to end up winning 6-4. That result put Old England Nomads on 101 points equally the points tally that Cramlington Falcons had. Second place was decided on scores between the two teams which Old England Nomads just edged to finish second. In the other match in the division NECA B had an 8-2 win over Ouston A, Jamie Collins was player of the match with wins over Harry Veitch and Jon Mawson.

The top two places in Division 2 had been decided before the final fixture with Brandon Bravehearts winning the division with 123 points. Second place in the division went to Ouston B with 105 points. In the final game of the season Stocksfield B had a convincing 10-0 win over bottom club Ouston C with Nigel Tree, Pete Seago and Mark Perrin all winning three games.

In Division 3 Saints final match against Cramlington Dynamos was conceded by the Dynamos which gave Saints a 10-0 win and the division title with 107 points. Stocksfield C ended in second place with 103 points. There was one final game between Cramlington Cobras and Cramlington Magpies which was won 10-0 by the Cobras.
