League update 12th January

Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 12 January 2020

In the Premier Division there was a bottom of the table clash between Old England Jacks and Matfen Senators. Old England came out on top with a 6-4 win thanks to Steve Penman who won three games and Jake Helm who won two games; and Steve Penman pairing up with Dave Craddock to win the doubles.  The game was close throughout and went to the last game which saw Jake Helm beat Alex Holliday in the firth end to secure the win for Old England. There was an equally close game between Cramlington Stingers and Mount C which ended in a 6-4 win for the Mount team. Mount’s Bailey Pye made the difference as he won his three games, supported by Dave Cutler and Rod Roberts who won one game each.

In Division 1 with Newcastle University not playing Tyneside A lost the opportunity to go back to top spot after they suffered a 6-4 defeat against Prudhoe B. The Prudhoe team of Ryan Campbell, Jordan Dove and Duncan Fraser all own two games. Tyneside’s Mark Kimberly was player of the match winning three games. Ouston A had a 7-3 win over Mitford which keeps Mitford at the bottom of the table. Ouston’sBernie Morris was player of the match winning three games. Brandon Anacondas had a 6-4 win over Matfen Centurions. Brandon’s Ian Pattinson was plater of the match winning three games.

In Division 2 top placed Mount E had a 7-3 win over Cramlington Reivers. Mount’s win was secured by Will McCallum, Alan Livingstone and Caron Guthrie all won two games each. Cramlington’s Bernie McArdle maintained his 100% record in this division winning all three games. Old England Crocks had a straightforward 9-1 win over MatfenTribunes. Old England’s Barry Matthews, Joe Perrin and Nigel Coe proved too strong for their opponents. Third placed Cramlington Flacons lost a little ground on the top two teams with a 5-5 draw against Tyneside B. Tyneside’s Dean Eadington was player of the match winning three games. Cramlington Swifts had an 8-2 win over Ouston C, Phil Teah-Smith was player of the match winning three games with Anthony Doyle and Richard Williamson winning two games each. Ouston B had an 8-2 win Cramlington Trojans. Ouston’sMichael Lyons and Mark Rodgers both winning their three games. 

In Division 3 top placed Mont F had a straightforward 9-1 win over Cramlington Jaguars. John Rowell and William Edwards both proved too strong for their opponents winning their three games with Michael Bradley adding two games. The Jaguars’ consolation point came from Abdel Warayet. Brandon Bravehearts keep up the pressure on Mount with an 8-2 win over Tyneside C. Paul Dale and Jamie Westwater both winning three games. Matfen Whitley Chapel had an 8-2 win over bottom placed Ouston D. Stefan Sobell was player of the match winning three games with David Crompton and William Martin both winning two games each; Ian Cumpsonwon two games for Ouston. Newton B had a 6-4 win over Saints. Steve Dawson won three games and was player of the match despite being on the losing side. Cramlington Cobras had an 8-2 win over Matfen Cohorts with James Ainsley winning three games and supported by Alan Hedley and Steve Ralph who both won two games. 

In Division 4 there were straightforward wins for the top two teams. Cramlington Dynamos secured an 8-2 win over Cramlington Colts. Rohan Rawat and Alan Roskilly were too strong for the Colts players each winning three games; and pairing up to win the doubles. Cramlington Dragons had a 9-1 win over Cramlington Magpies. Pauline Long and Stephen Baxter both won three games for the Dragons and Paul Atheywon two games. The Magpies consolation point came from a good win by Nathan Hume over Athey. Cramlington Lions had an 8-2 win over Cramlington Knights with John McKenna and Freddie McKenna both winning their three games; and pairing up to win the doubles. The Knights’ points came from wins by Jessica Yang and Joel Dyter over Daniel Harrison.
