League update 21st July

Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 21 July 2019

In Division 1 St Chads moved back to top spot after a 6-4 win over Brandon Air. Brandon started strongly taking a 4-2 lead due to Lee Tinkler who had good wins over Chris Blake and Paul Baines, but thanks to Keith Weatherby who won his three games for St Chads they came back strongly to win the last 4 singles to secure the win. In the other game Cramlington Casuals remained in third place despite a 5-5 draw with Matfen Senators. James Bradbury was player of the match winning his 3 games for Cramlington.  

Division 2 continues to be dominated by Mount B and North East Chinese Association. NECA had a comprehensive 10-0 win over a weakened Newton team who could only field two players. Mount B maintained top place with a 9-1 win over Durham Bombers, Dave Cutler and Rob Roberts both won their 3 games for Mount and Tony Gelder won 2 games. The consolation point for Durham was gained by Ian McAllister who secured a good win against Tony Gelder. In the third game Old England defeated Tyneside TTC A 7-3. Jake Helm, Barry Hill and Lynne Herrington all won two games for Old England but player of the match went to Tyneside’s Mark Kimberley despite being on the losing side 

In Division 3 there was a top of the table clash when Cramlington Cobras took on Cramlington Trojans who were first and second respectively. The Cobras came out on top with a 6-4 win. Bernie McArdle was player of the match for the Cobras winning his 3 games. Brandon Bullets are keeping up the pressure on second placed Trojans after a 7-3 win against Cramlington Spartans. Paul Dale was in good form winning his 3 games including a win over Oliver Ho who has been in great form this season. Tyneside TTC B beat Matfen Tribunes 6-4. Keith Hodges was player of the match winning his 3 games despite being on the losing side.

In Division 4 Cramlington Corinthians secured a straight forward 10-0 win over Tyneside TTC C which keeps the Corinthians in top spot. The Corinthians team of Rob Lee, Sam Nair and Jamie Hall proved too strong for their opponents. Cramlington Ravens maintained second place after a 9-1 win over Cramlington Dynamos. Israel Shoedinde was again player of the match winning his 3 games, Jack Cairns won his 3 games as well and Roy Hugill won 2 games. Cramlington Dynamos suffered a second 9-1 defeat in the week this time at the hands of Ouston A. Duncan Hindmarsh and Jamie Milroy both won their 3 games and were supported by Dave Nichols who won 2 games.

In Division 5 with Matfen Cohorts not playing Cramlington Jaguars took the opportunity to move back to top spot with a 9-1 win over Cramlington Knights. The Jaguars team of Mick Sursham, Abdel Warayet, and Gavin Wilson proved too strong for their opponents with the consolation win for the Knights gained by Patrick Easton. Cramlington Dragons edged a close game against Backspin TTC C with a 6-4 win. Backspin had been leading 4-3 but then the Cramlington Dragons players of Pauline Long, Paul Athey and Stephen Baxter all won their last singles game to secure the win.
