Veterans County Team

Northumberland’s Veterans County team played the second and final round of matches at Draycott last weekend 5th/6th March and the team comprised Dave Robson, Jim Stamas, Paul Baines and Karen Henry. Currently playing in Division 1A and sitting mid table after the first round of matches. The best they could hope for was to maintain position as Northumberland No. 1 Veteran Eddie Smith was unavailable due to injury. The team did not disappoint as they started well by drawing with Cheshire on Saturday morning and being unlucky when leading 5-4 with only the mixed doubles to play could not clinch the win. This was followed up by a loss by 8 -2 to Warwickshire who included Ex Northumbria League player Mark Jackson in the afternoon. Sunday started well with a 6-4 victory over Staffordshire with Robson and Stamas both getting two each backed up by Baines with one and winning the men’s doubles. In the afternoon Yorkshire proved to be too strong and ran out 8-2 winners with Robson getting the 2 for Northumberland. The team finished mid table with the division being won by Warwickshire.
