League Update 17th July
Springwell A were too good for Riding Mill in the first division of the Northumbria Summer League with Jim Stamas, Tony Gelder and John Williamson winning all of the singles as they ran out 9 – 1 winners. Mark O’Connor and Peter Stempczyk had the consolation of taking the doubles set.
Paul Baines was in form for Saint Chads when they visited Sacriston Aces, getting a hat-trick and with Dave Bissett getting two, Barry Cuthbertson one and Baines and Cuthbertson winning the doubles they came away with a 7 –3 victory under their belts.
Ouston A and Old England shared the points in Division two with Jamie Dent and Mike Lyons winning twice for Ouston and Alan Atkinson getting two for the visitors after losing to Lyons. There was another drawn match in this division when Cramlington Cobras entertained Matfen A. Matfen’s Alex Holiday was the man of the match , recording a hat-trick in the singles and combining with Dave Swan to win the doubles. 
The youngsters Peter Smallcombe and Max Duffin were again in form for Sacriston Bombers with Smallcombe winning all of his sets and Duffin getting two to give their team a 6 – 4 victory.
Third division Brinkburn gained a narrow 6 – 4 victory when they entertained Springwell B thanks to a good performance by Ray Purves who was unbeaten in singles and doubles. Dave Cutler got a couple and Dick Karczewski one with Charlie Mouzon doing best with two sets for the visitors.
Sacriston Chargers and Brandon Bees were involved in a close game with the home team’s Jack Pugh and Denis Jennings both managing two sets each but a hat – trick from Jamie Lupton was the deciding factor in a 6 – 4 win for the Bees.
Cramlington Magpies consolidated second place in Division five with an easy 10 – 0 victory over the Knights.
