League update 22nd July

In week 10, Division 1, of the Northumbria Summer League, YMCA North Tyneside were at home against, against Cramlington Stingers. YMCA's  Jim Stamas won his 3 games and Andy Dryden beat Stingers' Duncan Wraight to take their tally to 4 points. However Stingers' David Graham and Dale Aitkenhead each won 2 games, and Aitkenhead and Graham combined to take the doubles giving a 6-4 victory for the Cramlington team.  Springwell A won their away match at Seaburn Dene. They gained their 7-3 victory with John William coming out top by winning 3 games and support from Alex Smith and Dave Pringle who each won 2. Richard Wilson won 2 games and partnered Rod Roberts to win Seaburn’s 3 points.  Tyne Dock were on the winning side of a 7-3 victory against Riding Mill. The Mill’s 3 points came from Mark O’Connor who won his singles matches.

North Fire, in their Division 2 home match against Ouston A went down 4-6. Dan Dodds won his 3 singles for Ouston. Sacriston Aces played two away matches this week both resulting in 6-4 victories for them. Aces’ Waldemar Dzwonkowski won all his games in the two matches at Old England and against Cramlington Cobras. To date he has helped Aces to the top of Div 2 with his record of games being played 36 - won 36.   

  

Division 3 is still very close. Matfen B, after their away win 8-2 against Cramlington Knights and 7-3 win over Whitley now have 82 points from 11 games. Cramlington Corinthians suffered an 8-2 defeat by Matfen A, thanks mainly to Keith Hodges and Alex Holliday each winning their 3 games. Corinthians have 62 points from 10 games. Sacriston Bombers are in third place with 60 points from 9 games but are likely to overtake Corinthians after they play their outstanding match against Whitley Chapel.

In Division 4 the 2 Cramlington teams met each other when a Jaguars team of Mick Sursham, Richard Anderson and Elliott Dorrington shared points with the Magpies team of Jamie Hall, Mackenzie Clark and Alex Creighton. It was a good night for Creighton who won his 3 singles and, partnered by Hall, the Jaguars team of Aubrey Drapkin, Mick Sursham and won the doubles game.  The Jaguars and Magpies had further games this week. Magpies lost 1-9 to  the experienced NESLC team of Russell Roper, Pat Thomas and James Ainlsley. Creighton beat Thomas for the Magpies point.  In their second game of the week Jaguars travelled to Ouston where they lost, 2- 8, to the B team.  Ouston’s Jeff McKenna and Jamie Dent did most the damage each gaining 3 victories over the Cramlington team.  Aubrey Drapkin and Mick Sursham secured the 2 points, each beating Jamie Milroy.  Max Duffin, Sam Duffin and Luke Dumigham made up the Sacriston Desperadoes team that entertained the NECA B team. Max and Sam each won 2 games whilst Nicholas Jia Cheng Yuen secured 3 singles wins to take a 6-4 victory for NECA.
