Week 12 Rport 2018-19

Week 12 report – 11 Jan 2019

Back to league action!

The league positions haven't altered much in division 1. Misfits have an 8 point lead over Smugglers, with Spin Doctors another eight points behind. It looks like Nets and Edges, Holsworthy A and McDs will be battling for fourth spot. Division 2 looks to be fairly clear. Holsworthy D are top with 99 points. Littleham are 15 points back after the D's 10 – 0 win this week. It appears as though Holsworthy B and Paddlers will contend third spot.

Misfits did suffer a rare defeat – 4-6- at the hands of Spin Doctors. Martyn Beer did his best to keep Misfits flying, winning his three in fine style. But Michael Sussex and super-sub Rob Herman won two each for the Doctors and the win was secured in the fifth set of the doubles. Rob's contest against Pete Kneil went to 12-10 in the fifth!

Smugglers could not make up much ground however as McDs took 4 points from them. Ben Taylor was the big Macs scorer (sorry!). He was undefeated, including a cracking game against Matthew Thomas. Matthew and Peter Hedge picked up two wins each, while Harry Thomas won a very close contest against Pete Dunstan.

Nets and Edges had a good evening against Balls of Fury, winning 8-2. Dave Streak and Martin Eyles took three wins each – though skipper Eyles' game against Lee Farrant was a very close one, with the Nets man just getting away in the fifth set. Lee, Marcus Berry and Steve Richardson picked up a point each.

Chulmleigh A had a similar result against Herons.  Jon Taylor was star man for the Chulmleigh team. His strong triple  - his first in division1 - was backed by two each from Harry Collins and Kevin Davies. Tim Cooke spoiled Harry's evening, but his win was well deserved – congratulations to him. Rog Gale won the award for the best pirouette, while Cilla and Paul, as usual, win the award for the best cake and sausage rolls!

Another 8-2 result – this time for Holsworthy A against Chulmleigh B. Dave Salisbury led the way with three impressive wins, while Dave's son Owen and Steve Cragg won two each. Dave Gray and Gerald Luscombe picked up the two Chulmleigh points.

In division 2, second placed Littleham did not have a great night against Holsworthy B. Dave Stone with two points and Thomas Venn did their best to keep Littleham going but they suffered a 7-3 loss as Barry Stearman, Doug Genini and Nathan Jukes each won two games to record the victory.

Paddlers were too strong for the Vice. Captain Tim Cooke and Lindsey Wright enjoyed an undefeated evening in an 8-2 result. Ollie Sussex had a good win for the Vice as did Chris Isaac. A number of ties could have gone either way, but the result cements Paddlers position in the challenge for third spot.

Leaders Holsworthy D put Dolphins to the sword in a 10- 0 thrashing. Messrs Jukes,  Taylor and Forsyth let slip just a couple of games all evening. The D's position at the top of the league looks very strong to say the least!

Other div 2 results not available at time of writing – sorry.
