Week 1 Report

North Devon Table Tennis League commenced the season with some cracking games.

In division 1, Torrington A stamped their authority on New Boys, Spin Doctors, 7-3. Maximum scores for Torrington were made by Kevin and Ben Taylor, but Dave Morgan and Dave Ewen each scored for the Doctors on their debut and showed they would be no pushovers.  Misfits were in imperious form, with Peter Kneil, Daniel Moore and Martyn Beer all scoring maximum 3 points, and not giving Chulmleigh A a look in.  Nets and Edges had a close match with Balls of Fury, with Balls of Fury just edging it 4-6. Martin Eyles kept Nets and Edges in the match with an impressive 3 points.

Minions opened division 2 with a good 9-1 win against 2-man Simply Smashing, which could have been much closer than the score line suggests. Steve Richardson and Bill Tregellas were both unbeaten. The doubles went to Minions 12-10 in the fifth.  Holsworthy B gave no quarter to the Dolphins, running out 10-0 winners.  A good start to the season recorded by Dave Streak, Barry Stearman and Jill Knightly.  The VICE left Holsworthy A wishing they had been more virtuous.  Bob Taylor won the Vice's point in a close 5 setter against Nathan Jukes, but maximum scores for Owen and Dave Salisbury, with Nathan taking 2 led to  a 9-1 win.  A similar 9-1 score was posted by Paddlers at Chulmleigh Chiefs. Tim Cooke and Robin Gale were unbeaten for Paddlers. Joey Butt won the Chiefs point in a close 5 setter against Mike Hill.

Littleham had a good 6-4 win at West Buckland, with Dave Stone starring for the visitors with a maximum.  There were a number of close games and West Buckland's Jai Moore and Rob Baker, each with 2 points, made a promising start to the season.
