2016-17 Week 17 Round Up by David Sillifant
HELLAND B and North Hill C both grabbed the points required to win their respective divisions in the North Cornwall Table Tennis League last week.
In Division Two, Helland needed just four points from their final league fixture at North Hill B to secure the title and did so with ease, winning 8-2.
David MacLennan and David Hughes each won their three matches with Michael Kinger and Jack Flockton collecting the home points.
Budehaven C finished runners-up after a 5-5 draw at home to third-placed Altarnun.
The home side all chipped in, while for the visitors, Paul Burden and Geoff Hale both won two.
Crackington B’s final day trip to Launceston was rearranged for tonight.
While Helland eased to the title in Division Two, North Hill only just grabbed the point needed at Budehaven D.
Boosted by the inclusion of Steve Dawber, the home side won 4-1 with Nathan Jukes winning both games. Dave Aplin’s victory over Dawber secured the title.
The other final fixtures saw comprehensive 5-0 victories for Bridgerule B and North Hill D over Bridgerule C and Helland C respectively.
In Division One, Blisland will become champions if they secure ten points from their final two matches.
Due to rearrangements, the moorland club are still yet to take on Budehaven A and North Hill A who met last Thursday night.
North Hill edged home 6-4 at the Budehaven Leisure Centre with Shirley Luckhurst (3/3) and Martin Hynes (2/3) in fine form.
Dave Salisbury picked up two victories for the home side with James Raymont and Helen Murgatroyd earning a point apiece.
Helland A look set to clinch the runners-up spot as they eased to a 7-3 victory over Torridge.
All three of Helland’s players – Ingus Abolnieks, Mike Fisher and Ritchie Bartlett – won two matches with Pete Freeburn grabbing all three of Torridge’s victories.
Helland finish the season on 60 points and will come second unless Blisland have a major slip-up against North Hill who are now on 54 points.
The scheduled Handicap Cup and Knockout Cup finals are due to take place this week, but only a couple actually go ahead.
The date for the Handicap Cup final between North Hill A and Helland A has yet to be decided as North Hill have to play their rearranged Knockout Cup semi-final at Crackington A this evening.
The Division Two Knockout Cup final will go ahead as scheduled with Budehaven B and C squaring off, while in the league there are two games to be played as Blisland travel to Budehaven A in Division One and Crackington B travel to Launceston.
