Early season tournament successes for Newton Abbot TTC

Congratulations to Kelvin Cheung and Archer Snow who both played exceptionally well in the League's Early Season Tournament, held at the Torbay Leisure Centre on Sunday 8th November 2015.

Kelvin Cheung, (N A Batmen) retained the Collins handicap singles cup defeating Archer Snow (N A Kites) in the final.  The players were at opposite ends of the Handicapping, with Kelvin playing off -50 and Archer, in his first season of League Table Tennis, off scratch. Archer battled really well, but Kelvin, playing a sensible and safe game was too consistent, winning through 11-7, 11-4.

Kelvin played really well to reach the final of the Excell hard bat challenge, defeating 11 times winner Dennis Gibbs on the way to the final. His final opponent, Kris Piwowar, had been pushed close in earlier rounds but proved too strong for Kelvin in the final, with Kris winning 21-9, 21-13.

The handicap doubles paired Archer with the leagues top player, Kris Piwowar. With Archer playing so well this looked like a very formidable pair, and so it proved as they went on to win the title by defeating Dave Friend and Andy Tyrrell (N A Eagles) in the final 11-3, 11-6, 11-3.
