The two leading teams at the top of Division 2 of the Middlesbrough and District Table Tennis League, Nunthorpe B and Beaumont Nomads C, are pulling away from the rest of the field following their convincing victories in last weeks’ fixtures.
Nunthorpe B made short work of Ormesby L with hat tricks from Barbara Kearney, Nick Bashford and David Hildreth. Only two of the sets needed a fourth game when Kearney beat Ollie Flight and Bashford and Steve Thackray.
Beaumont in second place in the table, followed suit with a 10-0 victory against Ormesby J. The match was closer than Nunthorpe’s encounter as Bruce Lowther, Malcolm Noble and Jane Lynas all scored hat tricks. Lowther was taken to five sets by Chris Samuels and Noel Thomas. Noble needed four games to beat Samuels and Andrew Green. The match between Lynas and Thomas also needed four games.
These results mean that Nunthorpe B now have a two point lead over Beaumont C who are 17 points ahead of the third placed team, Ormesby F. The team in fourth place, Swerve D, lost ground when they were defeated by Ormesby G by 6-4 so losing four points. Angus Poole was the star of the match, scoring a hat trick for Swerve whilst Syd Davis and Alan Fowler both won two for Ormesby G. The closet set was with Alan Fowler’s win over Stephen Tuck at 11-9 in the decider.
Swerve D are 20 points behind the leaders on level games.
