After the Christmas period the Mansfield league carried on the festivities with the Yuletide cup played on Monday 2nd January 2017. Always a fun event which is played with randomly drawn bats which have all sorts of covers and becomes a real leveller. And a new Champion was crowned when Division 2 player Alan Kenyon beat Mark Sansom 2-0 in the final.

There we 3 groups in Group 1 Last years winner Andy King was in ominous form when he won all his games and scored a maximum 126 points, followed by Jonathan Heath with a credible 116.
In Group 2 Alan Kenyon won the Group with 115 points with Chris Tilstone in 2nd place with 109

Then Group 3 was very close with only 5 points seperating the winner and the person in last place and every match apart from the last were all 1-1 draws. Jim Westwood last years runner up won the group with Mark Sansom in second.

Angela Brettell & Erlands Skels qualified has best 2 losers

In the Quarter-Finals it was best of 3 to 11 each game, and all 4 matches went to a decider. A repeat of last years final were drawn together in the Quarter-Finals and Andy King came from 1-0 behind to beat Jim Westwood 2-1. Alan Kenyon & Angela Brettell also came from 1-0 down to beat Erlands Skels & Chris Tilstone repectively. Mark Sansom also qualified beating Jonathan Heath 2-1.

 

Semi Finals saw last years winner and favourite Andy King take the first game 11-6 against Mark Sansom, but in a great match Mark came back winning the next 2 11-9, 11-6 to book his spot in the final.

In the other semi Alan Kenyon swiftly disposed of Angela Brettell 11-1, 11-6

 

Alan Continued this form into the final beating Mark Sansom in 2 beating him 11-7 7 , 11-6, Fantastic result for a relative newcomer to the league and he may be asking to keep the funny bats to play his league matches with.
