Match Report Weeks 3 and 4 2017 -18

Premier Division

 

A strong Affinity 1 team took all 10 points against Birley Moss 2 in week 3, with Stam Kioufis awarded Player of the Match. Their match against Albert 1st in week 4 has been rearranged for November.

 

Brookway 1st picked up 5 points against Albert 1st in a evenly matched contest, POM was an unbeaten Steve Dobbins. A changed Brookway team then played the University Staff 1st the following week and lost 7-3. Raphael Assier being the only 100% successful player that night.

 

Affinity 2nd lost a tough game against Birley Moss 1st 9-1 but picked themselves up against Hollinwood in week 4 to bounce back with the same score, this time in their favour. Player of the match was Kyan Chin for Birley Moss in the first game and Matthew Gold for Affinity against Hollinwood.

 

Birley Moss 1st continued their winning streak with an 8-2 win against Smithy Green. Kyan again picking up the POM award with 3 straightforward wins.

 

Division 1

 

Week 4 started with the University Staff 2nd v Albert 3rd. The match was equally balanced until the 6th game when the home team took the lead and never lost it, running out 7-3 victors with Hugh Gong the outstanding player.

 

Albert 2nd v Christies finished honours even, Awais Quereshi running into form and earning the POM award.

 

Thursday’s match saw Affinity 3 complete a perfect scoresheetagainst a mostly fledgling East Manchester Eagles team. Konstantina Apostologianni was the outstanding competitor in the match, winning all her games without the loss of a set.

 

Finally on Friday the East Manchester Hawks team succumbed 9-1 to an experienced Brookway team. Ian Gerrard was Player of the match with 3 wins out of 3 but Daniel Thompson deserves a recommendation for winning his team’s game and taking sets off the other 2 Brookway players.
