The team of Svilen Andreev, Chris Hewitt and Craig Preece represented Malvern in this year's Worcestershire Interleague Competition and emerged victorious overcoming opposition from Bromsgrove and Redditch, Dudley, Evesham, Kidderminster and Worcester.
The competition was held over a league basis with each team playing each opponent once over four singles and one doubles.
The Malvern trio beat Dudley (Declan Gardiner, Dan Brookes and Mark Nicholls) 5-0, Bromsgrove and Redditch (AwaisMohammed, Hawley Ellicott and Craig Allen) 4-1, Worcester (Patryk Kowacz, Geoff Burford and Simon Claxton) 5-0 and Evesham (Matt Hartwell, Luke Moffatt and Jack Davis) 5-0.
A win for Evesham over Kidderminster meant that going into the final round of matches, Malvern needed to win 2 sets against Kidderminster (Jason Thompson, Jamie Cartwright and Steve Horton) to clinch the title. A very tight contest ensued with Svilen coming from behind to beat Jason and then Svilen and Craig twice coming from behind to edge out Steve and Jamie in an incredibly tight and tense doubles. Although Kidderminster went on to win 3-2, Malvern won the title by a single set after finishing level in match wins.
Congratulations to the winning trio and well done to all the players who took part. There was some tremendous table tennis played throughout the day.
