Paperstation Malvern Table Tennis League Report Week 28

In Paperstation Malvern League Division 1 Broadheath Belters succeeded in their late surge to the title with 10-0 defeats  of both Ledbury Collection and Pterodactyl  Old Boys thanks to superb double  maximums from Sasha Grokhotov and Ben Bennett and single maximums from Dave Harvey and Brett Brining against Collection and Old Boys respectively. At the bottom Manor Park Express  were relegated after their 7-3 defeat against Manor Park Pumas for whom Geoff Woodward again won 3 supported by Dave Knowles with 2 and Jon Dyke with 1. Dave Woodyatt replied with 2 wins for Express and Ray Page 1 against Jon. Express then defeated Lebury Lions 6-4 with 2 wins each for Dale Dickinson, Dave Wooyatt and Ray Page. Partyk Kovacs was again in magnificent form for Lions winning his 3 singles and teaming up with Richard Smith to take the doubles against Dave and Ray.

In Division 2 Manor Park Rangers secured the runners up position with a 6-4 victory against closest rivals Scuttling Gang despite a superb maximum from Richard McKenna. However, Matt Lang and Lawrence Dodd with 2 wins each and  Richard Cullis with 1 secured the victory for Rangers, Bill Smith took the other victory for the Scuttling Gang. Matt and Richard won the decisive Doubles in 4 sets against Richard and Ray Davies.  Having secure 2nd spot, Rangers were then surprisingly beaten 7-3 by Poolbrook Dynamos for whom John Phillips and Geoff Burford  won 3  each and Tom James 1. Richard Cullis and Nick Haggar won 1 game each for Rangers with Richard and Lawrence Dodd combining to defeat Geoff and Tom in the doubles.

In Division 3 the title was not settled until the final match of the season when Tornados defeated Manor Park Devils 7-3 to pip both their opponents and Crackpots D to the title. This was largely due to a maximum from Andy Banks supported by Ethan Webb with 2 and Dominic Weston with 1. Andy also combined with Dominic to defeat Paul Lythgoe and Liz Hallam 16-14 in the 5th set in the doubles, Paul with 2 and Liz 1 replied for Devils.
