Seven cadets and juniors from the Malvern League's coaching club enjoyed their visit to Evesham for the Worcestershire County Championships. For many of them, it was their first major tournament.
Karl Richards, Alan Goodman and Reece Taylor-Lock all performed very creditably, but, unfortunately were eliminated in the group stages of their singles competitions.
Zoe Snee finished third in the junior girls singles and her sister Natasha was fifth in the cadet girls singles, but together they proved unbeatable in winning all their doubles matches and becoming the county junior girls doubles champions. Congratulations to both sisters.
Ben Meredith was, unfortunately, suffering from illness and although he gamely battled through the group stages of both the cadets and juniors boys singles, he later had to withdraw from all events.
Dominic Weston had a day to remember, reaching the final of the cadet boys singles before losing to the number one seed Craig Witherford. Dominic then went on to reach the semi-finals of the junior boys singles, beating players who were much older and more experienced along the way.
The organisers of the event both commented on not only the performances but also the impeccable behaviour of all the players, so congratulations to all of them and a big thank you to coaches Graham and Gerald, who gave up their time to provide transport and support.
