Help check and challenge us through new advisory group

Applications are open for a new advisory group that will help check and challenge the work of Table Tennis England.

The Members Advisory Group (MAG) is being formed to enable Table Tennis England to tap into the extensive expertise within the membership to help create the most enjoyable experience for everyone at every level of the sport.

The new group will aim to create a more collaborative and connected approach between the organisation and its membership.

It will meet two to fours times a year and provide strategic advice to the Board of Table Tennis England, reflecting the views of the table tennis community.

The MAG will comprise up to 12 people representing all areas of our sport. Six roles will be ‘functional’ and include coaching, technical officials, competitions, clubs, leagues & counties and schools. The other six are ‘player’ roles, which will be representative of the people who play table tennis at all levels. The intention is that these roles will be filled by active players, but applications are also welcome from associate members, i.e. those who support players, particularly parents.

All members of MAG will need to demonstrate that they can think creatively in a forward-looking way about the future of table tennis and to work constructively as part of a team.

Any member of Table Tennis England – apart from Board members and staff – can apply to the independent panel which will interview and appoint the members.

It is hoped the MAG will truly reflect the diverse nature of table tennis, therefore applications are encouraged from everyone, regardless of race, gender, disability, religious belief, sexual orientation or age.

Applicants are asked to submit their CV and a letter stating which role(s) they are applying for and why they think they can make an effective contribution to the work of MAG. This should be submitted by email to putting Members Advisory Group in the subject box. The closing date for applications is 16th November 2018. Interviews should be undertaken by early December 2018.

Role descriptions and MAG’s Terms of Reference have been published and can be downloaded below. The appointments are for an initial period of two to three years.

The appointment panel comprises nine members as follows: Steve Burge, Peter Charters, Charlie Childs, Graham Frankel, David Hockney, Gail Johns, Jos Kelly, Gary Whyman and Caroline Williams.

Administrative support for the application process is being provided by Head Office at Table Tennis England and all applications will be passed straight to the appointment panel.

The implementation of MAG was one of the key recommendations of the Independent Review Panel which was set up to undertake an independent review of Table Tennis England’s governance.
