Challenge match:Harefield v Hitchin - 30th May 2012

On Tuesday 29thMay Harefield Greenhouse Academy were invited over to Hitchin boys Schoolfor a challenge match against Hitchin development centre. Every Tuesday evening the ETTA Eastern Region run a session for players across Hertfordshire and as a end of year treat Eli Baraty’s Harefield were invited over by Regional coach Stephen Gertsen.

A similar tie took place at the same time last year with Hitchin taking victory; however Harefield with a point to prove took revenge. Harefield were emphatic winners on the night with a 13-7 success with all scores combined. It was a fantastic couple of hours of table tennis with some outstanding showdowns and close encounters however it was Harefield who produced the goods when it counted most. Harefield have improved dramatically over 12 months and this is illustrated by not just their performance at Hitchin but also representing England at the World Schools in Sardinia.

Baraty and Gertsen have formed a healthy competitive rivalry and both will be working the players hard as another challenge match will hopefully take place again next year. Thanks to Harefield and Eli Baraty for bringing the players along to Hitchin. It was a really good night and all players will have learnt and benefited from the experience.
