Note: Original match date was 20^th February 2024, but Morpeth A was unable to field a team.

Match Report

Morpeth A turned up with Duncan Brown, Chris Alexander, and Oleg Blyus, whilst NSY Comets A had Cain Fagan, Laikram Persaud, and Winston Wong.

Most of the games were won by the Comets team in 3-0, but there were two games worth mentioning. One was Laikram vs Duncan and the other was the doubles.

1.       Laikram was stunned by Duncan’s hard-hitting forehand and suddenly, Laikram lost the first leg 11-9. However, during the minute break, he slowly recoup himself and regained his momentum. Eventually, he won the next 3 legs 11-7, 11-4, and 11-9.

2.       Morpeth A did not go down without a fight and it clearly showed in the doubles. Comets A pairs were Cain & Laikram, whilst Morpeth A pairs were Duncan & Oleg. On paper, you would have put your money on Comets team to win, but it was not the case in this final match play. There were some wonderful rallies from the Morpeth team and they were attacking without fear.  All of the sudden, Morpeth team had three match points in the final set, but Comets A held their nerves. Eventually, they came back and won 15-13 in a nail-biting finish.

 Overall, it was a very exciting match and everyone contributed their part to make it an enjoyable evening.  Well done all.
