This year’s FINALS NIGHT took place at Crusaders Club on Wednesday 18th May in front of an eager, enthusiastic audience.

Number 1 match on Centre Table MEN’S SINGLES SEMI FINAL was between the reigning champion Andy Wignall versus the ever up and coming, Dan Rimmer. This match had the audience on the edge of their seats and was full of wonderful attacking rallies. First two ends to Dan by 11-8, 11-9 then the champion’s instincts took control with Andy biting back with wins of 11-6, 11-9. All set up for a highly anticipated final game!

Wow! Dan Rimmer swept to glory with fine serves and hits from the back of the court and dethroned the champion by 11-2.

Number 2 match was  the second MEN’S SINGLES SEMI FINAL was between the perpetual challenger, Nigel Keal and returning to Lincoln League again, Peter Mackie. First two ends comfortably to Nigel by 11-9, 11-5 and then Peter 7-3 down in the third. Almost down and out. Inspiration seemed to strike a chord with Peter and he took control winning the third and fourth by 11-7, 11-7. All was down to the final game. Peter had just enough energy to take himself past Nigel by 11-9 in a fantastic win for the Music man!

Number 3 match was the ladies Semi final between Sally Riggall and Alkisti Olympiou, the reigning champion. Sally is improving all the time and played some fantastic rallies using her elastic reach to return the bullets that Alkisti throws. Not quite yet enough, however. The result a win for Alkisti by 11-3, 11-6, 11-3

Number 4 match was the Ladies Semi final between Frouke Hermens and Marilyn Bawden. Our new Dutch player showed that she has good potential and certainly gave the outstanding Marilyn a good match in a 11-5, 11-3, 4-11 defeat.

Number 5 match was for third place between Fouke and Sally, with Frouke edging home by 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10.

Number 6 match was the DIVISION TWO CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL between David Brown and David Arnold. It proved a tight match with Mr Brown’s attack and the big chop of Mr Arnold in a clash between the two scorers for the evening. The result was a win for David Arnold by 11-9, 11-9, 12-10.

Number 7 match was the PLATE FINAL (First round losers in the Men’s singles) Ian Sleight against James Wynne. Sadly after reaching the final James had incurred a severe injury to his wrist but gallantly came to play the final, but he found it frustrating as he was obviously inhibited and went down by 11-2, 11-4, 11-5.

Number 8 match was the Junior Final Boys final between Ryan Mitchell and Jonah Shepherd (the reigning champion and in probably his last match as a junior).Ryan was in sparkling form ,easing home in the first two ends by 11-9, 13-11 but Jonah struck back in the third end by 11-8. Ryan was not to be denied and used his high velocity shots to take game four by 11-9 and the title. A great match and a very close result, well played.

Number 9 match was the LADIES FINAL between the pride of Greece Alkisti and the magician Marilyn. This was a repeat of last year’s final and every game was very tight this time, but Alkisti eased her way looping to a 11-5, 14-12, 12-10 win.

Number 10 match was the MEN’S FINAL between Dan Rimmer and Peter Mackie. First end to Peter by 11-9, was this to be another upset. The answer no as Dan forced his will and fine skills home to take the next three by 11-8, 11-4, 11-2 and the CHAMPIONSHIPS at last.
