NEW SEASON WEEK 14 RESULTS

DIVISION ONE  WEEK 14

CRUSADERS A in second place in the table were visited by the OLYMPIANS (unfortunately only two of them). First match up was a clash of the number ones. Would Dan Rimmer have any chance? The answer was no, as Andy Wignall swept by for a three games to nil win. Match two Matt Hewitt  , the famous thespian against Greece’s own Alkisti Olympiou. Result was  a  12-10, 11-8, 11-6 win for  Matt. Third game Nigel Crow against Andy, again three nil to the magic man, Andy. Fourth game Dan against Alkisti, much closer with Dan sailing home by 8-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-6. Fifth game Matt against Andy ,again was a comfortable win by three love to Andy. Key matchup would be Nigel against Alkisti and it was with a 11=5, 10-12, 12-10, 11-8 victory for Nigel. A doubles win for Olympians could not prevent the A’s  finding their way to a 6-4 win and a place at the top of the table.

RACERS had a sudden visit by the CRUSADERS B team in what proved to be the best contested match of the week. Game number one between the number one players Nic Keast and Quentin Olley, promised an extravaganza of attacking play .It did not disappoint. The  result  was a win for the young pretender Nic by 7-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9. Match number two saw Lesley Keast ease her way past Duddy Dudman in three straight games. Third match was between Marilyn Bawden and Paul Moore with Paul eventually opening up and winning after being two games up then two all  by 11-3, 11-5, 7-11, 8-11, 11-1. Lesley comfortably eased past Q ,but Duddy took a fine win over Marilyn by 2-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-6. Highlight of the evening was Lesley against Paul, with a win for Lesley by 4-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9. A great win for Paul over Nic by 11-5, 11-1, 4-11, 11-8 and the doubles for the B’s saw the match on a knife edge at 5-4 for B’s. Last match Nic v the deadly flat hitting Duddy. Result was a 11-8, 10-12, 1-11, 11-6, 11-3 for Nic and a cliffhanging 5 all draw. Great match.

RUSTONS A in their home den were visited by the C’s from Crusaders. C captain Bill Holmes again showed all his talents again in winning each of his matches in three comfortable games. Dan Brown was taken to four games by home captain Paul Conyers and evergreen Terry Colam. Rob Trevethick too ,was given a hard time by Paul only winning by 12-10, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6. The C’s showed all their strengths in a fine 10-0 victory.

SLAPPERS had to see the PSYCHO DELICS and first match on the table was a delight, Ryan Mitchell beating Adrian Haigh by 10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9. Home captain Clive Mitchell was in imperious form winning all his matches in three straight games. Psycho star was yet again Derek Wood , beating Ryan by 3-11, 4-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-3 ,a brilliant come back and also Andrew Flynn in three games. A strongly contested doubles between Andrew and Ryan and Adrian and Derek went to the home team by 10-12, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-7 and the match result was an 8-2 win for Slappers.

DIVISION TWO WEEK 14

TIGERS had the chance to nibble at the MISFITS. Starring for the Misfits was Lex Robinson with a scintillating  win over Ryan Hinson by 11-9, 10-12, 12-10, 12-10.Louise Hart for Misfits did well to take games off Ryan and Stephen Naylor but the Tigers were too fierce and three singles each for Stephen and Dominic Batey plus two for Ryan saw them ease to a 9-1 win.

IMPS had home advantage against the E’s (who were only a two man team on the night). Imp’s number one fought valiantly but found Iain Hicklin too good in a 11-5, 9-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-9 at the death. He had better fortunes sweeping past Ian Minoghue in three. Sterling efforts from Imps Sally Riggall and David Brown could not hold off the strong E team who went on to a 6-4 win with three wins for Iain and two for Ian plus a four game doubles win.

Late result

D’S FROM CRUSADERS were home to UNBEARABLES. The evening began well for the Unbearables with top Unbearable Dave Harris cruising to a win over the league’s only Italian player Salv Bambing in three straight games. A difficult night to the Unbearables then ensued . Elder statesman ,Barry Johnson was eased out by Mark Watson by 5-11, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7. Brian Reed and Dave did well to take games off the sparkling Kapil Sanghi and Barry went close to Salve by 9-11, 16-14, 11-9, 12-10 in a very tight match. The D’s were unstoppable on the night however and went to a surprising 9-1 win.
