IBIS are Champions Elect

IBIS seem certain to regain the Division 1 Championship in the Kendal & District Table Tennis League this week when they entertain Burton C. Last week’s matches saw IBIS crush a strong Crook A side 27-11. Phil Riley was unable to reproduce the form that saw him win the Closed Championships and was beaten by both Steve Dixon and Harry Carter. Meanwhile challengers Natland A could only manage a 23-12 win over Kirkby Stephen A with Jake Haygarth picking up his customary 3 wins. Burton A despatched their own B team back to Division 2 with a merciless 30-1 rout. Chris Knowles and the Baxendale brothers won all 10 rubbers for the loss of a single game. The outcome of all this is that IBIS lead Natland A, who have completed their matches, by 9 points. Burton A have still to play Crook A but in the unlikely event that they pick up the maximum 30 points, IBIS will still only need 7 points from their final match with Burton C to clinch the title. At the bottom of Division 1, Burton C, with a commanding 28-10 win against Dallam A, secured their place in the top division for another season. Dallam A need 7 points from their final match to send Natland B down to Division 2.

In Division 2, Crook B secured the Championship with a comprehensive 30-1 defeat of Kirkby Stephen B and will return to where they belong in Division 1. Mike Taylor completed the season unbeaten with 54 wins out of 54. Natland C seem destined to join them. They are 13 points ahead of club colleagues Natland D as both teams prepare for their final match.
