4 Horse Race at the top of Division 1

The winter season in the Kendal & District Table Tennis League is now midway through the first half of the season. 20 teams from 8 clubs, stretching from Dalton in the north to Kirkby Stephen in the east, are competing in 2 divisions.

After 5 matches, Division 1 looks like being a 4 horse race. Burton A, at the top, lead Crook A by a single point but Natland A and IBIS, each with a game in hand, are capable of closing the gap. Roger Pimblett, of Natland A, with 12 wins out of 12, is the form player. Steve Dixon, of IBIS, and Chris Knowles of Burton, are just behind with 11 wins out of 12. Natland A remain the only unbeaten team in Division 1. Young Jake Haygarth, only 12 years of age, from Kirkby Stephen, almost certainly the youngest player ever to play in Division 1, has won 11 of his 15 matches, an amazing feat for one so young.

Division 2 already seems set for a 3 way showdown between Natland C, Natland D and Crook B to see who finishes in the 2 promotion places. Natland C have yet to drop a single set but it seems likely that the identity of the top two will be determined by the results of the matches between the top 3.
