Burton join the battle

Burton A, following a devastating 10-0 destruction of Natland C, have joined the battle at the top of Division 1 of the Kendal & District Table Tennis League. The Burton team of Peter Baxendale, Mike Armishaw and Alan Holt were clinical in their demolition of the Natland team. Mick Taylor and Peter Taylor offered significant resistance, however, both taking Armishaw to the fifth and final game. It looks like being a long hard winter for Natland’s B and C teams, each with only 7 points from 4 matches and starting to be cut adrift at the bottom of the table.

Natland D and Burton D are tied at top of Division 2, each with 39 points from 6 matches, separated only by Natland having won one more match. The performance of the week came from Burton C, who moved out of the relegation places, as a result of a fighting 5-5 draw against promotion hopefuls Dallam A. James Burton was the man of the match with victories over Matt Neal, Peter Duxbury and John Fitzgerald. Simon Gregory’s 2 singles wins secured a very encouraging result for the Burton team.

The picture at the top of Division 3 remains very unclear as Dent and Kirkby Stephen B have games in hand. The true situation should emerge at Christmas by which time all teams will hopefully have played 6 matches.
