DIXON RETAINS BAND 1 SINGLES TITLE

Steve Dixon retained his Band One singles title at the Kendal and District Table Tennis League’s annual finals night at Ibis Sports and Social Club.

On home turf the Ibis maestro beat Natland’s Roger Pimblett to retain his crown. Dixon picked up his second title of the evening with a victory in the Veterans Singles over Keith Dymond. Hopes of a third title eluded Dixon when he teamed up with Ibis team mate James McGrath in the Open Doubles, losing to Dalton CC’s Alan Turner and Keith Dymond in an entertaining final.

The Band Two singles event was won by Burton’s Graeme Wheelhouse who triumphed against Natland’s Mick Taylor, while the Band Three title went to Dallam’s Stephen Troughton who was too strong for Dent’s Steve Hawley.

The Ladies Singles crown was won by Natland’s Louise Thompson, with the runner-up being Kirkby Stephen’s Fran Currie. Thompson gained her second title of the night when she teamed up with Roger Pimblett to defeat John Fearon and Fran Currie in the Mixed Doubles final. Any hopes the Natland player had of a hat-trick of titles fizzled away as she lost in the final of the handicap singles to James Burton.

Burton’s George Pickering beat Dalton CC’s Ben O’Flynn to take the Junior Singles title and then snatched glory in the Junior Doubles with Aidan Branch following their victory in the final against O’Flynn and Daniel Holden.

Only Knock Out Cup quarter and semi final fixtures remain with third division side Natland E facing top flight Dallam A for a place in the final. Division Two side Crook B await the winner of Crook A and Burton D’s quarter final match. The Knock Out Cup final and league trophy presentation night will take place at Burton Memorial Hall on Wednesday 22nd April at 6:30pm.
