TRAVELLERS LEAD THE WAY

Travellers A hold on to top spot in Division One of the FUN88 sponsored IOM Table Tennis League. Meanwhile, Tower A are yet to reach double figures, points wise at the bottom.

Peel A maintained their position at the top of Division Two. However, their main rivals, Tower B, remain hot on their heels and have two games in hand.

Surestrike Ramsey C extended their lead in Division Three with unbeaten Travellers D  now nine points behind but with a game in hand.

Division Four is topped by Peel C who are followed closely by Copy Shop D and E. Those two teams are level pegging and could move to within one point of the leaders if they win their spare games.

 

DIVISION ONE

Arbory (2) Travellers A (7)

This was an emphatic performance from top placed Travellers with another hat-trick for Mark Johnson followed by two each from Malcolm Cummings and Liam Chan. Khayee Vinas and Mike Tamarov salvaged a point each for fourth-placed Arbory Their team-mate Keeran Chan took the first set off Johnson who then polished him off 6/11, 11/3, 11/6, 11/6.

Copy Shop A (9) Tower A (0)

Sean Drewry continued his unbeaten league record by picking up three points for third-placed Copy Shop. Paul Corran and Adam Davies matched Drewry’s performance to complete the clean sweep. Graham McFarlane, Steve Curtis and Barry Jenkins all took Davies to the fourth set but their team are now 32 points adrift at the bottom of the division.

Strathallan (5) Surestrike Ramsey A (4)

Adam Teare collected three points to get fifth-placed Surestrike on the front foot followed by a hard won point from Juan Moore which finished 11/9 in the fifth set against Mason McLarney. Julian Briercliffe and Andy Patterson both secured two points before a win from Mason McLarney 8/11, 10/12, 11/9, 11/6, 11/1 against Rhys Yardley completed the comeback for second-placed Strathy.

 

DIVISION TWO

Peel B (3) Tower B (7)

Dave Parsons and Mike Bayley displayed matching unbeaten performances for second-placed Tower B.  Then Parsons paired up with Matt Crabtree to secure the doubles with two tie-breaks 11/8, 12/10, 13/11. Sasha Thomas, Harry Walters and Nathan Evans from sixth-placed Peel B all took a point off Matt Crabtree.

Travellers C (3) Travellers B (7)

Paul Mathieson-Nelson claimed full points for the fifth-placed C team. However, braces from Tommy Cowin, Stuart Douglas and Colin Brown saw their third-placed team-mates secure the match. The B team went one step further when Douglas and Brown notched up a hard fought win 9/11, 15/13, 11/13, 11/3, 11/7 against Mathieson-Nelson and David Buck in the doubles.

Copy Shop B (2) Peel A (8)

Malc Lewis claimed a trio of points for the league leaders and another four points were contributed equally between Maggie Mulhern and Andy McLarney. Mulhern and Lewis also edged a win 11/5, 7/11, 11/6, 12/14, 11/9 in the doubles against Rob Sim and Ibim Davies. Sim gained the two points for bottom placed Copy Shop.

 

DIVISION THREE

St Ninian’s A (5) Tower C (5)

Pedro Cardoso bagged a hat-trick for the sixth-placed Saints before substitute Ken Hegarty brought them up to five points by beating Barry Jenkins and Margaret Forsyth . In response Mike Chapman took two points for fourth-placed Tower while Jenkins and Forsyth earned a point a piece by beating Matty Kelly., Finally, Chapman and Jenkins combined to snatch a draw for Tower.

Surestrike Ramsey C (10) Surestrike Ramsey D (0)

The top placed C team thumped their bottom placed club rivals with hat-tricks coming from Fraser Dametto, Wendy Hogan and Frank Feeney. Hogan and Dametto also won the doubles to make it a clean sweep. Jack Yardley and his grandson Alex picked up the odd set whereas young Dylan Yardley got stuck on nine points a couple of times.

Surestrike Ramsey X (0) Copy Shop C (10)

Third-placed Copy Shop eased past their sixth-placed opponents with hat-tricks for Malcolm Lambert, Chris Aspden and Zac Walker. Aspden and Walker comfortably took the doubles for a full house. Tyler Hannay was particularly unlucky to lose against Aspden.  Having come back from two sets down Hannay eventually lost 7/11, 6/11, 15/13, 11/9, 9/11.

 

DIVISION FOUR

IOM JD 2 (8) Surestrike Ramsey E (2)

Oliver Ashe and Lauren Allwright both netted three along with a point from Micah Clarricoates for seventh-placed JD2.  Ashe and Clarricoates also secured the doubles for a convincing win against their fifth-placed opponents. Jake and Thomas Morris both earned consolation points but young Oliver Morris did exceptionally well to get into a tie-breaker with Clarricoates.

St Ninian’s B (10) IOM JD 1 (0)

A clean sweep for St Ninian’s thanks to three points apiece from Luke Hegarty, Archie Walter and Thomas Coleman. Hegarty and Walter also claimed the doubles for the fourth-placed side JD1 were somewhat hampered by turning up a player short. William Shooter took each of his opponents to four sets and Jake Levine lost 4/11, 10/12, 10/12 against Hegarty.

Peel C (9) IOM JD North (1)

Tiernan Garvey and Callan Reed picked up three points each with Louis Faragher about to follow however he was stopped at two wins by Glenn Callow 11/3, 2/11, 15/13, 7/11, 9/11. Faragher and Garvey also obtained the doubles. William Dalugdugan and Charlie Callow had to be content with the odd set or tie-breaker.
