Team Handicap Challenge
 

Now that the league competitions have been finalised, local Table Tennis now turns to the Team Handicap

Challenge, where all teams are given a handicap, and games are a single match up to 31points. Division one sides are pitted against Division Two side in a straight knock out competition.

In the Preliminary round Cat F overcame George Ward B by 6 sets to 3, this despite a maximum for   Bob Whittaker (GWB), to go through to the first round, Cat B progressed at the expense of Market Bosworth 1 by 6 games to nil.

Queen’s Mira overcame G Ward F by 6 sets to nil and there were also wins for G Ward E over Cat C and Queen’s D over Cat D.

In round 1 Goons defeated Cat E by 7 sets to 2 with Jason Woodfield winning all three of his matches. A very close run match between Steve White (Goons) and Alec Downes9Cat E) with the Goons man winning 31-30. Mkt Bosworth 2 lost to Barlestone A by 8 games to 1. Young Leanna Bancroft (MB) gaining a well- earned victory over Adam Pettitt (BA) by 31pts to 24.

Queen’s B saw off the challenge of G Ward C by 6 games to 3 and Queen’s Mira defeated Cat H by 5 games to 2. Ian Heavey recording three good wins for Queens Mira. G Ward D also got through at the expense of Cat G. Cat A overcame Barlestone B by 5 sets to 1 to also qualify for the quarter finals.

The match of the round was played out between two G Ward teams in Barwell and was a very close affair indeed. G Ward A the current holders of the Team Challenge Trophy took on the youngsters of G Ward E.  The match went all the way to the ninth game when Derek Thomson (GWA) sealed victory for his side by defeating the previously unbeaten Edward Brown (G Ward E) 31-21.

Cat A v Queen’s Mira

Queen’s Barwell v Barlestone A
