Goons duly completed the triple when they took the Table Tennis Team Handicap Challenge. They had already secured the Division 1 League title as well as the Senior Cup the Holt Trophy. Their opponents in the Team Challenge were Cat A but Goons showed just why they are the outstanding team this season, raced into a 4 sets to 1 lead before closing it out when Harry White (Goons) defeated Pete Jamieson (Cat A) 31-21 to win the match.
The final event of the season was the Hinckley Junior Championships recently held at the George Ward Centre in Barwell, there was good entry from across the borough with players from Market Bosworth, Barlestone and Barwell taking part.
There was a surprise in the group round of the Under 13’s when Alana Richardson beat top ranked Edward Brown 11-4, 9-11 & 7-11 to go through to the semi-finals against James Walker and in a very tight affair she came out on top 11-7 in the fifth game to secure a final place. In the other semi-final Ollie Wynne took on Brown only to go down 5-11, 7-11 & 10-12. Brown extracted revenge for his early defeat by beating Richardson in three straight to retain his title.
In the under 16’s event there was another very close game between Callum Dale and Matt Wynne, in a see saw match Dale secured the final spot winning 11-8 in the fifth game. O Wynne could find no way by E Brown in the other semi-final losing in three straight. Brown now into his stride comfortably saw off Dale again in three straight games to collect his second trophy of the night.
The Girls Open Final saw youngster Freya Wynne play out of her skin to secure an unexpected win over firm favourite Alan Richardson snatching victory by 3 games to 2.
The Junior Open saw Adam Pettit defending the title he has won for the past three years; in his semi-final he defeated O Wynne in three games to reach the final. E Brown took four games to secure his place against C Dale. The final was close but Pettit took it 11-9, 11-8 & 11-7 against Brown to lift the trophy once again
