The big match in Division 1 of the Table Tennis League saw league leaders Goons travelling to second placed Cat A, the two teams slogged out a very tight draw. Goons will kick themselves as they raced into a 5 sets to 2 lead, but then wilted under pressure from first Rhys Emery (Cat A) who defeated Jason Woodfield ( Goons), followed by Barry Taylor (Cat A ) beating Steve White (Goons) to pull the score back to 4 sets to 5. Then Emery and Taylor took a five game set 11-5 to clinch the draw.
Depleted Goons and G Ward A met recently with the Thurmaston team running out winners by 6 sets to 3.
Cat B overcame Barlestone B by 8 sets to 2 with Steve Adams (Cat B) winning his three. Cat D failed to challenge Barlestone A in their 10 sets to nil defeat. Bottom team G Ward E found Cat A too strong as they went down by 10 sets to nil,
Cat C picked up a good away win at Queen’s Mira by 8 sets to 2. Both John Winsper and Andy Spring winning all three for Cat C.
Barlestone A defeated Cat B by 7 sets to 3. Adam Pettitt (Barl A) suffered a rare defeat to Steve Bessant (Cat B)
Cat C overcame G Ward E by 9 sets to 1.
G Ward A had a 9 sets to 1 win over Cat D. G Ward B defeated Queen’s Mira by 7 sets to 3.
Goons currently lead the table with 146 points from 18 games closely followed by Cat A on 142 pts from 18 matches with G Ward A on 132 points from 19 games.
