Some very close matches in Division 1 of the Table Tennis League recently. Cat A and GWA fought out a real tight match. G Ward raced into a 5 sets to 2 lead before Cat fought back, firstly Rhys Emery (CatA) overcame Leigh Morris (GWA) winning in the fourth game 11-5. Barry Taylor (Cat A) then defeated Derek Thomson (GWA) to reduce the margin to one set. Taylor and Emery claimed the double to secure a fine draw for Cat A.
G Ward E took a major step towards moving off the bottom of the table when they defeated closest rivals Cat D by 6 sets to 4 to record their first win of the season. Both Dave Richardson and Edward Brown won their three. This win now leaves the Barwell side just one point below Cat D in the table with everything to play for in the final third of the season.
G Ward B easily defeated Barlestone B by 9 sets to 1. Both Clive Stretton and Bob Whitaker, collecting maximums for the Barwell side.
With Dave Daniels in good form Queen’s Mira overcame Cat B by 7 sets to 3. The match was however very much closer than the final score suggests with no fewer than nine sets going to either 4 or 5 games. Andy Searle collecting two wins for Cat B.
Goons continue to lead the way overcoming a spirited Barlestone B by 9 sets to 1. Harry White and Jason Woodfield winning all their sets for Goons.
Barlestone A saw off G Ward b by 7 sets to 3. Adam Pettitt wining his three for Barlestone with Bob Whitaker taking two for G Ward. Cat B beat GWE by 10 sets to nil and Cat A defeated their own Cat D team by the same score.
G Ward A secured another victory when they beat Cat C by 8 sets to 2. Andy Spring (Cat C) recording a huge win over G Ward’s Mark Perkins in a close five game set.
Currently Goons lead the table with 122 points from 14 matches, second are Cat A with 118 points from 15 matches and G Ward A third with 106 points from 15 matches.
