Queen’s B maintained their lead in Division two of the table tennis league but found life more of a struggle in the last round of matches, than they might have expected. They dropped three sets to G Ward D finally winning 7 sets to 3. In their next match they met second placed G Ward E and found life uncomfortable against the ever improving youngsters , despite fielding arguably their strongest team. Dave Richardson and Edward Brown(GWE) both collecting maximums and with Frankie Hallam(GWE) with one win the league leaders were beaten by 3 sets to 7. Queen’s final match saw them clinch the championship with a 7 sets to 2 win over Cat G.
G Ward E had a real fight on their hands when they played third placed Barlestone C, racing into a 5 sets to 2 lead only to see Barlestone fight back picking up the next three sets to claim the draw. For G Ward Dave Richardson won three and Edward Brown two whilst for Barlestone Alex Westerby took 2 wins.
Barlestone C comfortably won both their remaining fixtures firstly defeating Cat G by 10 sets to nil and then seeing off GW C by 8 sets to 2, to claim third spot in the league.
At the other end of the table Cat E and GWD both close to the bottom met with Cat E needing to win to ensure they finished above G Ward D in the end it was close, the final score being a draw 5 sets apiece. Young Jack Dennis winning all three of his matches for the first time. This draw sees G Ward D finish third from bottom on 55 pts with Cat E also on 55 points finishing bottom but one on points difference only.
Dave Richardson took the honours as leading player in the averages with 91.49%. League Champions Queen’s B finished on 128points, G Ward E second on 117 points and Barlestone C third with 113 points.
