Bosworth Academy reach finals event

Bosworth Academy Under 19 boys have qualified for the Butterfly Schools Team Championships Zone Finals after finishing second in the Regional Finals at Grantham to King’s College Grantham. Having lost to King’s College they stormed back to win their other three matches against teams from Cambridge, Ipswich and Bedford to grab the second finals berth. The team including two Hinckley League players, namely Adam Pettitt and Cameron Lightfoot with team-mates Dan Andrews and Marcus Harvey will now go the Zone finals at Blackburn in March. Should they progress from there then a place in the National Finals to be held at Hinckley Leisure Centre in April?

 

Some really close results in Division Two of the Hinckley Table Tennis League. RE Studios fought out a tight draw with Hit’n’Hope with H’n’H leading by 5 sets to 2 after seven sets, the match looked over but Gary Rhodes(RE) had other ideas duly completing his maximum and then combining with Steve Crutchley to secure the doubles and a fine draw.

Cat F defeated Cat E by 6 sets to 4 in a close encounter of the Cat variety. The “F” team led by 4 sets to 1 but with Alex Downes (Cat F) in splendid form they fought back just going down by 6 sets to 4.

Leaders Queen’s B overcame a spirited G Ward D to win by 7 sets to 3. Roger Hill (GWD) continues to be undefeated in the league, collecting straight wins over Martin Goodman and Tony Nixon and dropping one game to Chris Sherwin.

In their next match Cat “F” surprised a depleted Queen’s B managing to earn a draw. Eddie Kwok (Cat F) defeating both Chris Sherwin and Martin Goodman (both Qn’s B).

G Ward E had a good away win over Barlestone C by 7 sets to 3. Alex Westerby outstanding for Barlestone with three good wins.

Cat G lost by 4 sets to 6 to G Ward D.

G Ward C have quietly moved towards the top end of the table in recent weeks. They beat Cat E by 10 sets to nil but then surprisingly slipped to defeat when they played Hit’n’Hope recently. The final score 7 sets to 3 in favour of the Hinckley side. Ian Nixon winning his three.

Other results – Barlestone “C” 6 – Cat “G” 4, G Ward “D” 7 –Cat “F” 3 and Queen’s “B” 7 –G Ward “E” 3.
