Some close games at the top end of the table in Division one Barlestone “A” fought hard against G Ward “A” in this important match. Man of the match was Barlestone’s Adam Pettitt who claimed the scalps of all three Barwell players including an excellent win over Mark Perkins (GWA). G Ward led by 4 sets to 1 after five games but then Pettitt led a spirited recovery bringing Barlestone to within one set of GWA at 4sets to 5. Perkins and Mark Thompson (GWA) then combined to take the doubles to secure a 6 sets to 4 victory.
G Ward”A” had another close game with one of the league leaders R E Studios 1. The scores were level pegging after eight sets at 4 a piece but then Thompson (GWA) stepped up to the plate to take the 9th set against John Winsper(RES) and with Thompson and Leigh Morris closing out the match by winning the doubles to secure a valuable 6 sets to 4 victory.
There was another tight match between G Ward “B” and Cat “A” which finished as a five all draw. Cat “A” raced into a 4 sets to nil lead, only to let that lead slip as GWB fought back. The Whittaker boys Daniel and Rob (GWB) took the doubles to snatch the draw.
GW”B” fought out a further draw in their match with Nalgo. Man of the match was Dave Richardson (GWB) standing in for Bob Whittaker, collecting an impressive maximum including wins over both Dave Daniels and Kevin Edwards (both Nalgo).
Nalgo failed to retain their form when they faced Hugglescote Rams going down by 8 sets to 2. The Rams continued their recent good form defeating Barlestone “A” by 7 sets to 3.
Cat “A” overcame last season’s runners up Goons 7 sets to 3. Both Alex Mason and Pete Jamieson winning their three.
Queen’s C found Cat “B” in good form going down by 2sets to 8 at home. Steve Bessant (CATB” winning his three.

The title chase is wide open with no fewer than five teams separated by just 6 points. Still all to play for.
RE Studios 1 lead with 51 pts from 8 games, in second spot lie Cat “A” with 50 pts from 7 matches, third are Goons with 50 pts also from 7 games, fourth GW”A” with 47 pts from 7 and fifth are Barlestone “A” on 45 pts from 7.
