In Division One of the Hinckley League Queen’s “C” were always in control of their match with Barlestone “B” running out winners by 7 sets to 3. Both Tony Nixon and Alan Morris, winning their three sets for Queens “B”.
Goons started the season with an emphatic win over CAT”B” taking the match by 10 sets to 0. Jason Woodfield (Goons) was in outstanding form taking a maximum with some ease, despite Steve Adams (Cat”B”) winning one game 12-10 in his set with Woodfield. John Szoztak (Goons) also won his three but had to be content with winning his in either four or five games. Lucky Obi (Goons) took two but found Adams too strong in the last game
RE Studios 1 continue their good form winning a very close match with Cat “A”, who last week had defeated the highly rated Hugglescote Rams. Rhys Emery (CatA) was again in superb form taking all three of his sets. For RE Studios1 both Nick Raynor and Andy Spring won two each and Gary Rhodes (RES) one plus the doubles to run out worthy winners by 6 sets to 4.
Barlestone “A” had another good win this time over Nalgo, the final score Barlestone “A” 9 and Nalgo 1. Charlie Bateman (BA) was man of the match, comfortably taking all three of his sets. Adam Pettitt (BA) also won his three but dad Russ Pettitt lost the one to Steve Tandy (Nalgo).
The clash between the G Ward “A” and “B” teams went the way of last season’s champions GW”A” by 9 sets to 1. The “B” team could only field two players and this led to their downfall. Derek Thomson (GW”A” was man of the match.
At this early stage of the season GW”A” lead the table with 18 points from two matches. Closely followed by Barlestone “A” on 17pts from two and RE Studios 1 on 12 points also from two matches.
