Week 6 Update

As the season nears the one third point, with all teams having played (or been scheduled to play) all other teams, bar one, the dynamics of each division are working themselves out. The final match up of the first third takes place next week, before the Wren Cup Round 1 interrupts for a week (see 'Wren Cup 1st Round Draw' on the above "Local News" item).  The League program then continues for another three weeks, with the Wren Cup / Plate then taking up the final week before the Christmas / New Year break.

Division 1 sees Adeyfield 1st having opened up a nine point lead, and maintain a 100% record, and even at this early stage, look strong favourites to retain their title, given their strong squad.  It is familiar names behind them, in case of any slip ups, with Crown & Sceptre 1st holding 2nd place above Flamstead 1st, whilst St. George's 1st, in their first season at the higher level, are heading the mid-table, ahead of Crown & Sceptre A and Adeyfield A, just ahead of Northchurch 1st and Row.  A few new names to the top flight are making for some interesting new challenges and match ups, and good to see some new names appearing (as well as the regulars, and some returners).  The Individual Averages also have a familiar look at the top, with the 100%-ers being Marc Lyons, Glen Wilkes and Richard Anderson - albeit none of these have played more than twice.  Mark York just lost 11-9 in the fifth, this week, to Ken Stonebridge, to relinquish his 100% record, but his 14 wins from 15 makes him the top regularly playing competitor, just ahead of team mate, Mike Boardman.  Daniel Broner has made a great start with seven wins from nine, so far, and some good scalps, and definitely a name to watch for in the future, and with St. George's also having signed up Mike Wilkins, they seem set on cementing a place in the top flight.

Division 2 leaders are Crown & Sceptre B, still unbeaten, and they have opened up a six point gap on a trio of chasers, Flamstead A, Adeyfield B and McAlpine.  Northchurch A are currently heading the next set of teams, although both Adeyfield C and St. George's A have a game in hand, with Crown & Sceptre C just another few points further back, completing the line up.  Bruce Ghaemi heads up the Individual Averages, unbeaten in 12 games, with Alan Jones also on 100%, whilst XinJun Wang has only lost to Bruce in 18 outings, followed in the Averages by Martin Johnson and Dave Westley.

Division 3 has clear leaders, at this stage, in Flamstead C, with a 100% record, and have a big lead over all their rivals.  Leverstock Green are still clear in 2nd spot, followed by Northchurch C, and then by Adeyfield D, Flamstead B and Highfield (all of whom have a game or two in hand).  Northchurch B, with some new recruits, are in 7th, just ahead of Crown & Sceptre D.  In the Individual Averages, David Liveing has 100% after 15 games and looks a class ahead of the rest, although still on 100% are Jon Summers, Tony Bourke and Roy Lambden, closely followed by Chris Jennings and Darren Roan, with just one loss apiece.
