Match Report - Week 8 - November 29th 2017
Premier Division

The season is now halfway with eight matches completed with the premier attracting strong players from Sussex to play in this very competitive division. This week leaders Hang Em High invited one of Crawley top players Graham Barnes to play for them in their match Vs Ping, Panthers Graham obliged by winning all three including the prized scalp of Marc Burman. This match between Hang Em High and Ping Panthers resulted in a 7-3 for the division leaders and was table tennis at its most exciting, with seven out of the ten matches going to four and five sets. A treble for Graham Barnes, two from Michael Bridger and one from Andrew Sharland with Michael and Andrew winning the doubles. For Ping’s two from Marc Burman and one from Alan Stone.

Assassins move back into second place with a thrilling 6-4 victory over a very determined Dynamos team with eight out of ten games going to four and five sets. Assassins Keigo Burnham winning three, Charlie Hough two and Ben Worley winning a very important one. For Dynamos, two for Dennis Hayden, one for Richard Cosens with Richard Caddy and Dennis defeating Charlie Hough and Ben Worley in the doubles.

Final premier match saw Bullets defeating Game Changers 6-4. For Bullets it was three for David Champneys and two from John Burnham with David and John winning the doubles over Game Changers Angus Ogg and Costas Kyriacou to win the match for Bullets. For Game Changers two for Costas Kyriacou plus one each for Mike Day and Angus Ogg. It must be said that the depth of strength in the premier shows up in the closeness of results.


Division One

Another win for St Andrews puts them five points clear at the top. This week they defeated Bashers 7-3. For Saints it was hard earned trebles for Terry Dean and Stuart Vincent, who also combined to win the doubles 11-7 in the fifth over Bashers John Bridger and Oliver Neil, For Bashers it was one apiece for Oliver Neil, Vincent L’Estrange and John Bridger.

Paddlers defeated Dark Horses 7-3 with a treble for Samantha Stoner and Lyle Cyster with guest player Kevin Deacon winning one. For Dark Horses it was one apiece for Ross Knowlson and Steven Ive with Steven and Ross defeating Samantha Stoner and Lyle Cyster in the doubles to earn their team a point.

Despite close games it was an 8-2 victory for X Men over Spin Masters, with trebles from Peter Dunsby and Peter Caddy with Tom Christophersen winning one. Peter Caddy and Peter Dunsby gained earned maximum points in defeating the father and son duo of Claudio and Ricardo Bagaini. For the hard working Spin Masters team one from Claudio Bagaini and one from Riccardo Bagaini.


Division Two

Magiks are running away with this division. This week a 9-1 win over Dangermen puts them six points clear at the half way stage. Trebles for Alistair Blue, Mel Sims and Tony Turk plus the doubles with Mel and Tony. For the hard working Dangermen the lone win came from Colin Cooper.

Another 9-1 one win went to second placed Burning Rubber’s Steve Lee (3) Blake Davies (3) and Gavin Pitts (2) with Gavin and Blake winning the doubles. For Smashing Pumpkins the lone win came from the bat of David Polhill.

Pingwins also had a maximum points 8-2 win over Blade Runners.  A treble for both Adam Wiseman and Paul Lewis with two from Rob Walsh. For Blade Runners a singles win for Malcolm Norwood plus a doubles win with team mate Keith Johnson.

Final match saw Cutting Edge defeating Swifts 6-4. Trebles for the Wiseman brothers Freddie and Oscar who owing to the lateness of the hour had to concede the doubles to Swifts. Third player Dan Polhill played well and took Emily Dunsby to five and Georgie Hough to four sets. For Swifts it was a win each for Alanna Blain, Emily Dunsby and Georgie Hough.

League matches return on January 10th.
