Match Report

A very close match which could have gone either way or ended as a draw but in the end favoured Bexhillians A with a 6-4 scoreline. Talented young player Emily Koester had an epic battle with Mike Funnell with both exchanging some great attacking rallies all the way to deuce in the fifth set before the youngster prevailed 14-12. She also managed to cross the line 12-10 in the fourth set against Roger Pingram, always a tricky and clever player. Her luck ran out against Steve Hickey though who pipped her 13-11 in the fourth set with a barrage of winning forehand smashes down both wings. Faldie Adams was the outstanding player on the night for Bexhillians, cruising to comfortable maximum plus doubles with a virtuoso display of super spin serves, impregnable deep chop and vicious looping smashes to all corners of the table. Stepping in on the night, division two player Trevor Towner fought for every point but in the end the topflight opposition proved too much for him. An excellent match played in a great spirit with the Bexhillians side just edging it this time.
