The Minor Trophy final was between Bexhillians C (Tina Beaney, Brian Busbridge and David Laing) and Hollington B (Yasar Akar, Mike Courtnage and Paul Hyland).
In the first doubles match Brian Busbridge and David Laing took on Yasar Akar and Mike Courtnage. Brian and David won that in straight sets 11-8, 11-8, 12-10.
The next match, between Tina Beaney and Paul Hyland, was another three-setter with the scores ending 11-8, 12-10, 11-8, in favour of Tina, making the overall score two-nil to Bexhillians.
Mike Courtnage pulled one back for Hollington by beating Brian Busbridge 8-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-7.
In the next match David Laing faced Paul Hyland. David defended manfully, like he does, giving high returns that somehow always find the table. Despite this Paul beat him 11-6, 11-6, 11-3, levelling the overall score to two each.
In the fifth match Tina Beaney overcame Yasar Akar 11-9, 2-11, 11-6, 11-2, regaining the lead for Bexhillians.
This lead was increased when, in the second doubles of the evening, Tina Beaney and Brian Busbridge beat Yasar Akar and Paul Hyland 8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-2.
The seventh match was between David Laing and Mike Courtnage. This was the longest match of the evening and the only five setter. Again David defended manfully making Mike play a cautious game. In the end Mike won 10-12, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 11-4.
In the next match Yasar Akar beat Brian Busbridge 11-5, 11-7, 11-5. This result meant that the contest went to the wire with the overall score level at four each.
Tina Beaney and David Laing won the evening for Bexhillians C by beating Mike Courtnage and Paul Hyland 11-7, 13-11, 4-11, 11-7.
Peter Harding was thanked for all his hard work in organising the event which he has done for many years now and which was once again this year a great success.
HDTTA President Mike Funnell gave out the trophies to the victorious team.
