Saturday 3rd June 2023 saw the welcome return of the annual Hastings and District Table Tennis Association awards evening, which this year took place at the Masonic Hall, St. Leonards-on-Sea.
League members looked forward to meeting socially for the first time in four years. With the 2019-2020 season abandoned due to the pandemic, the following one cancelled and the next ending during the Covid-19 vaccination programme, the 2022-2023 awards ceremony was a long-awaited cause for celebration amongst the local table tennis community.
League Chairman Dave Watters opened proceedings with a brief welcome before League Secretary Paul Hyland announced the award winners and H&DDTA president Mike Funnell presented trophies and medals to the victorious teams and individuals.
After the last award was accepted, the music began, and a light and varied buffet was served in a side room. The bar area offered a quieter space where players and their partners mingled late into the evening sharing stories of the season just past and making plans for the next one.
Thanks are due to the organising committee for their efforts in making this overdue celebration go so smoothly.
