The penultimate week of regular fixtures in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League left several issues undecided.

Two wins for Hollington Academy A in Division One has given them the championship barring some bizarre results. The Academics had Nathan Darby, Ryan Heselden and Bashar Ubaid unbeaten in a 10-0 rout of Tackleway B before Heselden and Paul Barry won three apiece and Ubaid two in a 9-1 win over Hollington Academy C.

Second placed Saints A beat Academy B 7-3 with a Dave Butler maximum and two from James Winchester, while Rose Rainton won two for Academy.

Saints cannot now catch the leaders, but third placed Bexhill A, who have an extra game outstanding, can take the title with three 10-0 wins if Academy A suffer two 10-0 defeats. Bexhill put themselves in the right frame of mind with a 10-0 win over Bexhill E with Ryan Warner, David Rayment and Martin Kellaway unbeaten.

Saints B and Hollington A will take the promotion slots in Division Two after both teams picked up three points.

Saints maintained their lead with a 6-4 win at third placed Tackleway C. Jamie Martin won three and Ron Davenport two for the leaders while Kevin Rowe won two for Tackleway. Davenport’s loss to Rowe was his third this season and cost him his place at the top of the averages.

Hollington’s Shaun Godfrey is now top after his maximum helped his team beat Bexhill F 7-3. In a rare appearance, Neil Stapley won two for Hollington as did Andy Payani for Bexhill.

Saints lead by a point and have a game in hand.

Mike Charter’s fine maximum for Tackleway E could not save them from a 6-4 defeat at Tigers A who had two wins each for Chris Woods, Roger Smith and Dave Mitchell.

In Division Three, a routine 10-0 win over a weakened Tackleway G moved Hollington C’s team of Mick Oakman, Keith Young and Pete Shoesmith five points clear in second place. Such is the competition for second that Hollington may well need points against Monarchs B as they could be caught by Tackleway F or Hollington E, who have games in hand.
