After the previous week’s fixtures were decimated by the Arctic weather, the Hastings & District Table Tennis League returned to some degree of normality with Division One producing key clashes in the relegation zone. Bexhill G had the best result in the bottom half, with Ryan Heselden’s maximum setting up a 6-4 win over Saints B, for whom Ron Davenport and John Wond both won twice.

Bexhill B also gained an unexpected point from their 7-3 defeat against leaders Hollington Academy A. The Academics were without their top two players but had the luxury of bringing in Stacey Furnival who was unbeaten, as was Basher Obeyed after a long hard struggle in which five sets required a deciding game.

Tackleway A beat Tackleway C 8-2 with a Roy Funnell maximum and two wins for Mike Funnell and James Gorridge while Roger Pingram won twice for the C team.

Tackleway C drop to second bottom with five matches to play.

Second placed Bexhill A narrowed the gap with a 9-1 win at Tackleway B who remain five points adrift at the foot of the table. Rob Warner and David Rayment were unbeaten and Ryan Warner won twice.

In Division Two, the lead changed hands in a bloodless coup as leaders Tigers A had their match called off and were deposed by Bexhill E who won by a walk-over.

Basement team Hollington B gained a 5-5 draw at Bexhill H where the home side’s Chris Hack was unbeaten and Ryan Demeza and Kieran Gibbs won two each for Hollington.

Hollington’s celebration was muted however, as, on the next table, relegation rivals Monarchs A snatched a 6-4 win at Bexhill F. Harvey Webb won three for Bexhill and Alison Jordan and Peter Harding two apiece for Monarchs. This was Monarch’s first win of the season and puts them ahead of Bexhill F and a point behind Bexhill H.

Mike Foster’s maximum for Third Division Tigers B helped them to a 6-4 at Hollington C. Geoff Hillier and Pete Shoesmith both won two for the losers.
