The Hastings & District Table Tennis League Team Handicap Event came to life at the Quarter Final stage with three of the four games producing 5-4 scorelines.

The closest of these saw NALGO A edge out Saints with an exceptional maximum from Paul Hyland and two wins from Mike Courtnage for NALGO and two for Saints’ Rob Clemence.

NALGO were 3-1 down before levelling at 4-4 when Hyland beat Neil Pankhurst (+8) in straight games. Courtnage’s wins both went the distance including one against Trevor Fountain (+11) in the penultimate match.

 

NALGO now face Hollington A for a place in the final after Hollington eliminated Bexhillians B 5-4. Man of the match was Bexhill’s John Ellis who had to give away 9 or 10 points in each of his three wins. Ryan Demeza and Kieran Gibbs both won twice for Hollington, who won four of the five sets which required a deciding game.

 

Monarchs beat St. Leonards Academy 5-4, despite a maximum from Zachary Allen for the losers. Alison Jordan and Dave Turnbull won two apiece for Monarchs who came up with three convincing wins after trailing 2-3.  Allen (+8) completed his maximum with a win over Peter Harding in the dead rubber.

 

Hollington B produced the most impressive scoreline when they beat Bexhillians C 7-2, although six sets went to three games.  Yasar Akar was unbeaten for the winners while Adam Akar and Bradley Britt both won two.

Hollington B now face Monarchs in the semi-final.
