Bexhillians A made sure of second place in Division One of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League with an 8-2 win over rivals Hollington Academy B which pushed the Academics back into fourth place. Lewis Mayhew and David Rayment were unbeaten for Bexhill with Rayment scraping past Rose Rainton 11-9 in the decider to clinch four points.

Saints A will be third after maximums for Dave Butler and James Winchester ensured a 7-3 win at Hollington Academy C. Saints won all four sets which went the distance with Butler having to come from two games down to beat Nick Standen.

With Tigers A consigned to bottom place by last week’s defeat, the clash with nearest rivals Bexhillians D lost some of it’s edge. Nevertheless, a tight contest ensued resulting in a 5-5 draw with three wins for Tony Catt and two from Sheila King for Tigers and Bexhill’s Brian Beaney also winning twice.

Maximums from Ron Davenport and John Wond set up Saints B’s 8-2 win at Tackleway B.

In Division Two, second placed Tackleway E beat Saints C 9-1 with Keith Lindsay and Gina Rogers unbeaten and Peter Wilson winning two. Clive Drew-Clifton picked up Saints’ consolation while Paulette Clarke went to five games twice without success.

Tackleway C need a draw from a re-arranged game at Hollington A to pip their clubmates for second place.

Maximums from Paul Hyland and Mick Lane led  NALGO A to an 8-2 win over Hollington B.

Bexhillians E and Tigers B fought out a 5-5 draw with three wins for Pam Winter and two for Paul Welford for Bexhill and two for Tigers’ Chris Woods.

In Division Three, Bexhillians H are top after a 10-0 win at Tigers C in which Alan Chumbley, Dom Goodson and Konrad Pieterse were unbeaten.

This completed Bexhill’s season, but Monarchs will take the title if they can pick up four points from their two outstanding fixtures.

Dave Watters and Peter Watters both won three as Hollington Academy D beat Saints D 7-3, although Peter had to come from 2-1 down to both Neil Pankhurst and Rob Clemence.
