Hollington Academy A clinched the Division One championship in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League with a comfortable 10-0 win over Tackleway B when Paul Barry, Nathan Darby and Andy Furnival were all unbeaten. Academy A have been runners-up for the last three years since their last title in 2012/13 but this season they were not to be denied and have led the table since week 3.

Defending champions Saints A are fourth after beating Tigers A 7-3 with three wins from Dave Butler and two from Andy Syrett while Tony Catt won two for Tigers.

This result confirms that Tigers will finish at the foot of the table and next season should be the first for many years that the club will not be represented in the top flight.

Hollington Academy B’s chances of second place were not helped by a 6-4 defeat to Bexhillians C who had a maximum from Graham Gillett and two wins for John Wilson.  Rose Rainton won twice for the Academics.

The tussle for second place in Division Two is now a two-horse race between Tackleway C and Tackleway E. Despite Tackleway D’s 9-1 win at Bexhillians F, which was their last fixture, they can finish no higher than third. Alan Blackman and Owen Hatter both won three and Phil Toze two for Tackleway.

Tackleway C won 9-1 against Hollington B with maximums for Kevin Rowe and Dan Rickaby and two wins for Andy Brown which puts them in pole position, needing to draw their remaining fixture at Hollington A to claim second place.

In Division Three, Monarchs maintained their 100% record with a 10-0 defeat of NALGO B with Alison Jordan, Andrew Edwards and Dave Turnbull, on his season debut, unbeaten. Monarchs need four points from two games to take the title.

Nearest rivals Bexhillians H beat Willett & Phillips 9-1 with maximums for Alan Chumbley and Dave Hazelden and two for Dom Goodson. Sue Clarke picked up W&P’s consolation.

Rob Clemence led Saints D to a 7-3 win over Hollington Academy D for whom Peter Watters won twice.
