Hollington Academy have three of the top four teams in Division One of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League but the B and C sides both lost ground as they fought out a 5-5 draw. Jamie Martin’s maximum kept Academy B in the contest after inching past Stacey Furnival in the opening set. Scott Bills’ double for the C side included a win over Chelsea Furnival in the decisive tenth set.

Another ‘in-house’ match saw Bexhillians C scrape through 6-4 against Bexhillians D with Pete Robinson unbeaten and two wins for John Wilson. John Bradbury won two games for the D team, including an 11-9 in the fifth win over Wilson, who had earlier been on the right end of a similar scoreline against Brian Beaney.

Sheila King notched her first singles success of the season before going on to take a maximum which gained Tigers A their first point in a 6-4 defeat to Tackleway B. Adrian Goodrum, Martin Richards and Dave Wilson all won two for the winners.

Hollington A lead Division 2 after a 6-4 win over Tigers B where Shaun Godfrey continued his unbeaten run and Steph Sargent won two. Both teams fielded Third Division reserves, one of whom, Bryan Tichband, excelled for Tigers with two wins.

NALGO A and Bexhillians G drew 5-5 with Kevin McEwan unbeaten for Bexhill and Paul Hyland and Mike Courtnage winning two apiece for NALGO. NALGO shared the points by virtue of Hyland’s win over Ryan Heselden at 16-14 in the fifth game.

Another cliff-hanger saw Bexhillians E go from 3-1 up to 3-5 before levelling with Tackleway D in a match with no maximums and no bagels. Pam Winter and Paul Welford (Bexhill) and Alan Blackman (Tackleway) all won twice. Winter opened proceedings with a win over Owen Hatter at 13-11 in the fifth and Welford ended the match with an identical score over Blackman to clinch the draw.

In Division Three, Monarchs beat Tackleway F 6-4 despite Dan Kildea’s maximum for the losers.  Andrew Edwards and Alison Jordan both won two for Monarchs.

Bexhill H beat Hollington D 10-0 with Dom Goodson, Baz Goodson and Hastings debutant Ying Wang unbeaten.
