Hollington Academy A have yet to drop a point in Division One of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League as they ended the brief run of Hollington Academy B with an 8-2 win. Nathan Darby was unbeaten for the leaders, while Paul Barry and Bashar Obeyed both won two games.  Rose Rainton, fresh from winning the Women’s Singles at the Midlands Masters Veterans Tournament, gained two excellent wins, losing to Darby in 5 games after leading 2-0.

The other end of the table could provide some intense competition and Saints B gained their first points as they came from 3-4 down to beat Bexhillians B 6-4. Ron Davenport gained a comfortable maximum for the winners while Andy Summers won two for Bexhill.

Tackleway A looked set for a shock defeat to Bexhillians B when they trailed 1-4 before Roy Funnell’s emphatic attacking gained three wins and inspired them to a 6-4 victory. Brian Beaney and John Bradbury both won twice for Bexhill, including excellent wins over the normally reliable Roger Pingram.

Bexhillians A returned to form with an 8-2 defeat of Tackleway B with three wins for Rob Warner and Dave Rayment and two for Tina Beaney.

The performance of the week came in Division 2, where the young Bexhillians G side defeated Tackleway C, many people’s favourites for an early return to Division One, 9-1. Maximums from Cameron Jones and Kevin McEwan and two from Ryan Heselden gained the win for Bexhill.

Hollington A are also unbeaten and they showed no mercy on their youthful B side as they won 10-0, with Steph Sargent, Shaun Godfrey and Neil Stapley unbeaten.

In her debut for the club, Gina Wilson’s maximum led the way for a 7-3 win for Tackleway E over Bexhillians E. Paul Welford won two for Bexhill, losing 12-10 in the fifth game to Rogers but coming home 11-9 in the fifth to prevent Peter Wilson’s maximum.

In Division Three, Hollington C had to come from 3-5 behind to gain a hard-earned draw with Saints D.  Neil Pankhurst was unbeaten for Saints while Keith Young and Ken Philcox won two each for Hollington.
