Tackleway B picked up their first point in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League Division 1 as they went down 6-4 to Bexhill C who had unbeaten Graham Gillett and a brace from John Wilson to thank for their win.

Four singles contests, either side of the doubles, went the distance and put Tackleway back in the game, thanks mainly to two wins for Martin Richards.

Bexhill A beat Tigers A 7-3 with another maximum for Lewis Mayhew and two wins for Martin Kellaway. Tony Catt again impressed for Tigers with 2 wins including one over Kellaway from 0-2 down. Kellaway himself had to come from 2-0 down before getting the better of Sheila King.

Two wins each for Claire Bridges and Pete Lambert helped Saints D to a useful 6-4 win over a weakened Hollington A in Division 2, despite Shaun Godfrey’s maximum for the losers. Hollington almost claimed a draw when Ryan Demeza went down to Lambert 8-11 in the decider.

Alan Blackman, Owen Hatter and Phil Toze had a comfortable 10-0 cruise for Tackleway D against Bexhill G.

Bexhill D continued their good start with a 7-3 win at NALGO A where they had John Bradbury unbeaten and two wins for Brian Beaney. Mike Courtnage won two for NALGO, losing in 5 sets to Bradbury, but the high spot of the evening saw Bradbury come from 0-2 down to beat Paul Hyland 18-16 in the 5th.

In Division 3, Hollington’s Amelia Long was unbeaten as Hollington B drew 5-5 with Tackleway G for whom Dougla Bick and Kevin Eastman won two apiece.

Bexhill F won 7-3 at Tigers C with a treble for Harvey Webb and two wins for Malcolm Glover, while Michael Foster won two for Tigers.

Another tight match at NALGO B saw the home side’s teamwork edge out McPhersons 6-4 with Paul Courtel, Ron Spencer and Eric Cruttenden winning two apiece and  Pete Watters’ maximum for the visitors proving to be in vain.

In  a Hollington derby, the D side beat the C side 9-1 with Yasar Akar and Ryan Demeza unbeaten and two wins for Omar Khabbazeh, who narrowly lost out to the C team’s  Bradley Britt in five sets.
