The struggle for the Division One championship in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League could barely be closer after the latest round of matches.  Leaders Bexhill A dropped a point in their 7-3 win over fourth-placed Tackleway A where Rob Warner was unbeaten and Bob Lowe won 2 games. Roy Funnell won 2 for Tackleway and he and Roger Pingram went down in 5 sets to Warner and Lowe in the doubles.

Hollington A took advantage of this lapse with a 9-1 win over Hollington C in which Paul Barry and Stacey Furnival were unbeaten and Andy Furnival won 2, losing only to Sussex junior Will Goodstone, on his debut for the C side. This win puts Hollington A level on points with Bexhill A, but Bexhill lead by virtue of a solitary set advantage.

Hollington B had a comfortable 9-1 win at Tackleway B with maximums from Rose Rainton and Jamie Martin and 2 wins for Lisa Standen. Martin Richards picked up Tackleway’s consolation with a 5-set win over Standen.

Bexhill C beat Tigers A with Graham Gillett unbeaten and 2 wins each for Pete Robinson and Alan McCleave. Tigers’ quest for a point was denied in the second game of the match when Robinson edged home 12-10 in the 5th.

Saints C disposed of a weakened Bexhill B 9-1 with 3 wins each for hard-bat duo Ron Davenport and John Wond and 2 wins for Andre Keen.
