In one of the key games of the season in Division One of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League, leaders Bexhill A took on third placed Saints A, who put themselves back in the picture with an emphatic 7-3 win. Ritchie Venner and Dave Butler did the damage for Saints, both being unbeaten and combining for a doubles win. Butler set the stage early on with a 5-set win over Lewis Mayhew, with Butler proving the quicker to get in with his lethal forehand.

Former champions Hollington A took the opportunity to secure a 10-0 defeat of Tackleway B with maximums for Paul Barry, Andy Furnival and Basher Obeyed.

Tackleway had a sniff of consolation in the doubles but were unable to convert a 2-1 lead.

Bexhill A and Hollington A are now level on points, with Bexhill having a meagre 2 sets advantage while Saints A are 6 points adrift in third place.

Nick Standen and Darren Chawner won 3 each and Scott Bills won 2 as Hollington C defeated Tigers A 8-2. Dave Mitchell scored Tigers’ only singles success before partnering Sheila King to a doubles win at 17-15 in the 5th.

Tackleway A had a 9-1 win over Saints C in which Roger Pingram and Roy Funnell were unbeaten and Michael Funnell won 2.  John Wond put Saints on the scoreboard with a 4-set win over Michael Funnell.

Hollington B beat a below-strength Bexhill B 9-1 with maximums from Robin Gibbs and Jamie Martin. Bexhill’s Hastings Over-50 champion John Ellis beat Lisa Standen, who won 2 games for Hollington.
